Body odor is something we all deal with, it’s part of being human. It’s totally normal, sometimes the sun is blazing, you’ve been working hard all day, and you’re bound to have a bit of a stronger smell than when you just stepped out of the shower. However, if your body odor is unusually strong, even right after a shower, it might be time to consider an armpit detox.

Let me share my simple solution for detoxing your underarms, it’s easy, effective, and a game-changer for your body odor.

Why Can Body Odor Get Stronger?

There are several reasons why body odor might intensify. These can range from your diet and clothing choices to stress or even medical conditions. If you’ve noticed a sudden change in your body odor that doesn’t improve with regular washing, ask yourself:

  • Did you change something in your diet recently? Spicy foods, garlic, onions, and sulfur-rich foods like broccoli or cabbage can contribute to stronger smells.
  • Have you consumed alcohol? Alcohol can be released through your pores and sweat.
  • Are you wearing synthetic fabrics? These can trap sweat and bacteria, making odors worse. I always try to wear natural fabrics like wool or cotton to prevent smelly situations.
  • Are you taking new medication? Some drugs can alter your body’s chemistry and sweat composition.
  • Are you under a lot of stress? Stress triggers apocrine sweat glands, which produce sweat that bacteria love to feed on.
  • Did you start smoking? Smoking introduces odors that can linger on your skin and breath.

If you identify a possible cause from the list above, try addressing it to see if your body odor improves.

Another often overlooked factor is your deodorant. If you’ve recently switched from a commercial deodorant to a natural or homemade option (like my DIY deodorant), you might notice a temporary increase in odor. This happens because many commercial deodorants block your pores, causing toxins to build up. When you stop using them, your body starts purging these toxins, which can lead to a stronger smell temporarily.
